📢 Most researchers know they should be visible online. Far fewer know how to do it without sounding performative, generic, or exhausted.
This is the starting point of our AOM 2026 PDW: Social Media for Research Impact: Developing Purposeful Strategies for Academic Openness.
📅 Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026
⏰Time: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM ET (GMT-4/UTC-4)
📍Place: Loews in Regency B

This interactive PDW will help participants reflect on their current social media presence and develop a more purposeful, authentic, responsible, and sustainable strategy for research impact.
Rather than focusing on visibility for its own sake, the workshop will help researchers think through:
Purpose: Why do I want to use social media?
Presence: What does my current digital identity signal?
Platform: Which platform actually fits my audience and goals?
Personality: How can I communicate in a way that still sounds like me?
Practice: What routine can I sustain without social media becoming a burden?
Participants will work with the Researcher's Social Media Compass, engage in roundtable discussions including responsible use of AI, receive structured feedback, and leave with concrete next steps for using social media in a way that aligns with their research, values, and boundaries.
The PDW is designed for researchers at different career stages, including those who are already active online, those who are unsure where to start, and those who are skeptical about social media but curious about its potential for academic openness and research impact.
